Paper rubs against the Print Head

  1. Check 1 Does the paper loaded on the printer match the media type selected in the printer driver?

When printing with the media type specified in the printer driver, load the specified media type in the printer.

When printing with the media type loaded in the printer, specify the media type in the printer driver.

    Note

    • When Auto (Use Printer Settings) is selected for the media type, printing is performed with the media type loaded in the printer.

    • Click Get Information to reflect the paper information set in the printer to the printer driver.

  2. Check 2 When loading paper in the printer, is the media loaded the same as the media type selected on the touch screen?

Set the correct media type on the touch screen.

  3. Check 3 Is the paper loaded properly?

If not loaded properly, paper can buckle and rub against the Print head.

    Reload the paper.

  4. Check 4 Is the Print head height set too low?

Set Head height in the touch screen menu to the value higher than the current one.

  5. Check 5 Is the paper thick, or a type that curls easily or is prone to buckling after absorbing ink?

    • If using paper-based printing material such as Heavyweight Coated Paper, set Transport unit vacuum strength in the touch screen menu to Medium-strong or Strong.

    • If using film-based printing material such as CAD Tracing Paper, set the Transport unit vacuum strength in the touch screen menu to Standard, Medium-strong, or Strong.

    • If using paper thinner than 0.004 inches (0.1 mm), set Transport unit vacuum strength in the touch screen menu to Weak.

If that does not resolve the problem, increase the Head height setting in the touch screen menu.

  6. Check 6 Does the paper have a strong curl at the front edge or is it buckled?

Set Cutting mode in the touch screen menu to User cut, and set leading edge detection to Do not detect.

To keep track of the amount of roll paper remaining, set Manage remaining roll amount to Auto estimate or Disable before loading the roll paper, and then restore the setting of Manage remaining roll amount to Auto estimate or Barcodes after the roll paper is loaded.

In addition, set Media type selection method to Manual or Use current media type.

  7. Check 7 If you are using plain paper, changing the settings from the printer driver may improve the print results.

  8. Check 8 If you are using rolls, are you using the recommended paper and recommended environment?

Using rolls or environments other than those recommended, may result in increased curl and rubbing of the print head. Use the recommended paper and recommended environment.

  9. Check 9 When removing a paper from the top delivery tray, have you removed all the paper?

It is recommended that you remove all printed documents on the tray when removing them. Returning the printed documents to the tray may cause paper jams.

  10. Check 10 Is the output location set to the top?

When ejecting from the top, the paper may jam depending on the printed image, paper width, temperature and humidity. In this case, switch the output location to the front.

Refer to the following for how to use the basket when outputting to the front.

  11. Check 11 Is the leading edge or the trailing edge of the paper rubbing?

If the leading edge of the paper is rubbing, set a margin at the leading edge and print. If the trailing edge of the paper is rubbing, set a margin at the trailing edge and print.
