Connection Methods
There are two methods for connecting the printer to your device (such as a smartphone). One method connects via a wireless router; the other connects directly.
The two connection methods cannot be used at the same time.
If you have a wireless router, we recommend that you use the method described in Connect via wireless router.
When connecting another device while a device is already connected to the printer, connect it using the same connection method as the connected device.
If you connect using a different connection method, the connection to the device in use will be disabled.
Connect via wireless router
- Connect the printer and a device using a wireless router.
- Connection methods vary depending on the wireless router type.
- You can change network settings such as the SSID and security protocol on the printer.
- When the connection between a device and a wireless router is completed and (Wi-Fi icon) is displayed in the device's screen, you can connect the device to the printer using the wireless router.
Direct Connection
- Connect the printer and a device without using a wireless router. Connects a device and the printer directly using the printer's Direct Connection function.
- If you connect using Direct Connection, Internet connection may become unavailable depending on your environment. In that case, web services for the printer cannot be used.
- If a device is already connected to a network, you cannot connect it to a printer in Direct Connection mode. Disable the connection to the network, and then proceed with the setup.
- If a device is connected to the Internet via a wireless router, and you then connect it to a printer in Direct Connection mode, the existing connection between the device and wireless router will be disabled. In that case, the connection of the device may switch to a mobile data connection automatically depending on your device. Transmission fees for connecting to the Internet using a mobile data connection apply.
- In Direct Connection mode, you can connect up to five devices at the same time. If you try to connect a sixth device while five devices are already connected, an error will appear.
If an error appears, disconnect a device that does not use the printer, then configure settings again. - Network settings such as the SSID and security protocol can be changed on the printer.
