Scan Quality (Image Displayed on the Monitor) Is Poor

Check 1 If the image is jagged, increase the scanning resolution, or select TIFF or PNG in Data Format of the Settings dialog box.

Check 2 Set the display size to 100 %.
Some applications do not display images clearly if the display size is too small.

Check 3 Update the calibration data.
Perform calibration by scanning after setting Perform Before Every Scan in Calibration Settings to ON on the Scanner tab in the Preferences dialog box of ScanGear (scanner driver). Calibration may take time depending on your computer.

Check 4 If moire (stripe pattern) appears, take the following measures and scan again.

Set one of the following settings in the Settings (Document Scan) dialog box, Settings (Custom Scan) dialog box, Settings (Scan and Stitch) dialog box, Settings (COPY) dialog box or Settings (SEND) dialog box of IJ Scan Utility, then scan from the IJ Scan Utility main screen.
- Set Select Source to Magazine and set Color Mode to Color
- Select the Reduce moire checkbox in Image Processing Settings

On the Basic Mode tab of ScanGear (scanner driver), select Magazine (Color) in Select Source.

On the Advanced Mode tab of ScanGear, set Descreen in Image Settings to ON.

- If moire appears when you scan a digital print photo, take the above measures and scan again.

Check 5 Check the monitor's color depth.
Refer to Help of Windows or the monitor's manual for details on how to check the monitor's color depth.

Check 6 Clean the platen and document cover.
Clean the platen and document cover of the scanner, while taking care not to press the platen heavily.

Check 7 If the document is in poor condition (dirty, faded, etc.), then set Reduce Dust and Scratches, Fading Correction, Grain Correction, etc. in Image Settings on the Advanced Mode tab of ScanGear.

Check 8 If the color tone of images is different from the original document, take the following measures and scan again.

On the Advanced Mode tab of ScanGear, set Image Adjustment in Image Settings to None.

- Check 9 When a thick book or similar item is scanned, white spots, streaks, or colored patterns may appear in scan results due to interference from ambient light. In that case, cover your scanner with black cloth or the like.
