Points to Note When Replacing Wireless Routers

Printer Information Check Method

As wireless routers change with the times, the following and other new technological advances are achieved.

  • Speeding up

  • Wider range due to antenna technology

  • Expansion in range due to mesh function

  • Improvement in encryption

  • Enhancement of useful functions

When Wireless Router Is Changed

To use new wireless router technologies, you will need to replace your wireless router. However, just replacing the wireless router will not allow computers and printers to connect to the network. Here we will explain points regarding setting when replacing a wireless router from the viewpoint of setting up a printer.

When Wireless Router Is Changed

Devices that were connected to the old wireless router (computers, printers, smartphones, etc.) must be reconnected to the new wireless router.

Wireless routers compatible with Wi-Fi 5 (IEEE802.11ac), Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE802.11ax), and later include models with a function to allow the SSID and encryption key (network password) currently in use to carry on being used on the new wireless router. This function is called a transfer function. If you use the transfer function, you can change the connection from the wireless router connected to up until now to the new wireless router without changing the printer settings.

Settings need to be configured on the new router because not all of the information on the old wireless router can be copied to the new router. Check the specifications and instruction manuals of the your old router and new router before use.

Not Using the Wireless Router Settings Transfer Function

When Wireless Router Is Changed

When not using the data transfer function, we recommend connecting with the WPS button. Press the WPS button for each device to be connected. A connection will take time to be established. Until the connection is established, do not start connecting the next device. Also, if a connection fails, we recommend trying to connect with the WPS button again.

Once the computer or smartphone is connected, connect the printer. If you connected the computer or smartphone by WPS, we recommend also connecting the printer by WPS.

If the security protocol for the wireless router includes WPA3, you may not be able to use WPS. Connect manually with the printer or change encryption settings on the wireless router.
