Wi-Fi Connections

Easy Wireless (Easy WL) Connect:

This mode connects the printer and wireless router using a computer (smartphone/tablet) application. The computer (smartphone/tablet) must be pre-connected to the wireless router that is trying to connect the printer.

Wireless Direct connectivity is also provided if your smartphone/tablet is not connected to the wireless router.

In this connection mode, the connection information between the computer (smartphone/tablet) and the wireless router is registered in the printer, and the printer and the wireless router are connected. Wireless Direct allows you to register the connection information of the printer on the computer (smartphone/tablet).

If you cannot connect using this connection method, use the connection method described below.

Manual connection:

In this mode, the SSID of the wireless router is displayed on the printer display, you select the wireless router you want to connect to, and connect.

If the SSID does not appear on the printer's display due to stealth features, etc., enter the SSID directly to connect.

The SSID encryption key (network password) is required to connect.

If Do Not Use Weak Encryption in the security item in Remote UI is enabled, TKIP will be weak encryption. If the encryption of the wireless router is set to WPA-TKIP, the SSID is not displayed on the printer display, and you cannot connect even if you enter it directly. If you enable Do Not Use Weak Encryption while connecting with WPA-TKIP, the connection will be disconnected.

Depending on the wireless router, the SSID may change for each frequency, there may be an SSID dedicated to WPA3, or there may be a guest SSID for temporary use.

The guest SSID for temporary use may block communication between computers, smartphones and printers to ensure security. Do not select it or change the wireless router settings.

Similar to the SSID for temporary use, the mobile router blocks communication between each computer, smartphone and printer by default. Before connecting the printer, turn off the network isolation function of the mobile router and the privacy separator setting.

Conversely, on a mesh wireless router, multiple wireless routers use the same SSID. In addition, some wireless routers use either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz SSID depending on the wireless strength. In all cases, if you try to connect, There Are Multiple Instances of the Same SSID is displayed, and the user may be prompted to select which SSID to use. If this message is displayed, the wireless router displayed at the top is the strongest, so select that wireless router.

Not all models display the SSID with the strongest signal strength at the top. Therefore, print out the network settings information and check the status of the signal.

WPS connection:

This mode connects using the wireless router button. Set the printer to WPS connection mode, then press and hold the WPS button on the wireless router within 2 minutes. The name of the WPS button may differ depending on the manufacturer.

WPS (PIN) connection:

Display or print the connection information of the printer's WPS (PIN) and check it. This mode registers the PIN on the wireless router and connects. It is necessary to connect to the wireless router with a computer/smartphone in advance and display the setting screen.

Important

  • If the wireless router is configured with a personal separator, isolation function, MAC address filtering, or IP address filtering, etc., communication between the computer and the printer may not be possible. Disable these settings on the wireless router or change the settings on the wireless router to make it possible to use the printer.
