Access Control

The screen may differ depending on the choice of access control methods.

  • Printer Access Control Type:

    Select the type to be used to restrict the computers that can communicate with the printer through the LAN.

    Only those computers whose addresses have been registered, using the type selected here, will be able to communicate with the printer through the LAN.

    Important

    • Register the MAC Address or IP Address of all the computers with which you want to communicate through the LAN. If neither of them is registered, the computer cannot access the printer.

    MAC Address

    Select this item to use a MAC address to restrict access to the printer.

    IP Address

    Select this item to use an IP address to restrict the access to the printer.

  • When you select MAC Address for Printer Access Control Type:

    Enable printer access control (MAC Address)

    Enter a MAC address to register the computer that can be connected with the printer through LAN. Set this item to ON to restrict the access to the printer using a MAC address.

    Important

    • Register all the MAC addresses of the computers that are connected through the LAN. If a computer is not registered, it will not be able to communicate over the LAN.

    Accessible MAC Addresses:

    Allows you to check the registered MAC addresses and comments.

    Note

    • The comment can be checked only from the computer that was used to enter the comment.

    Edit...

    Allows you to edit the MAC address and the comment selected from the list of registered MAC addresses.

    Add...

    Adds the MAC address of the computers that can access the printer through LAN. The Add Accessible MAC Address screen is displayed.

    Delete

    Deletes the selected MAC address from the list of registered MAC addresses.

  • When you select IP Address for Printer Access Control Type:

    Enable printer access control (IP Address)

    Enter a IP address to register the computer that can be connected with the printer through LAN. Set this item to ON to restrict the access to the printer using an IP address.

    Important

    • Register all the IP addresses of the computers that are connected through the LAN. If a computer is not registered, it will not be able to communicate over the LAN.

    Accessible IP Addresses:

    Allows you to check the registered IP addresses and comments.

    Note

    • The comment can be checked only from the computer that was used to enter the comment.

    Edit...

    Allows you to edit the IP address and the comment selected from the list of registered IP addresses.

    Add...

    Adds the IP address of the computers that can access the printer through LAN. The Add Accessible IP Address screen is displayed.

    Delete

    Deletes the selected IP address from the list of registered IP addresses.

Add Accessible MAC Address/Edit Accessible MAC Address Screen

  • MAC Address

    Enter the MAC Address of the computer separating every two digits with a colon (:).

    For example, enter "11:22:33:44:55:66" for the MAC address of 112233445566.

  • Comment

    Enter identification information, such as the name of the terminal.

    The comment can be checked only from the computer that was used to enter the comment.

  • OK

    Registers the entered MAC address.

  • Cancel

    Cancels the MAC address registration.

Add Accessible IP Address/Edit Accessible IP Address Screen

  • Specification Method:

    Select the specification method of IP address.

    Single Address Specification

    Specify the IP addresses of the individual computers you want to enable access.

    Range Specification

    Specify the range of consecutive IP addresses of the computers you want to enable access.

  • IP Address:

    This can be entered when Single Address Specification is selected for Specification Method:.

    Enter each IP address with four numbers that are between 0 and 255, and separated with periods (.).

  • Start IP Address:

    This can be entered when Range Specification is selected for Specification Method:.

    Specify the lowest IP address within the range of consecutive IP addresses for the computers to which you want to enable access.

    Enter each IP address with four numbers that are between 0 and 255, and separated with periods (.).

  • End IP Address:

    This can be entered when Range Specification is selected for Specification Method:.

    Specify the highest IP address within the range of consecutive IP addresses for the computers to which you want to enable access.

    Enter each IP address with four numbers that are between 0 and 255, and separated with periods (.).

    Note

    • The Start IP Address: value must be lower than the End IP Address: value.

  • Comment:

    Enter identification information, such as the name of the computer.

    Note

    • The comment can be checked only from the computer that was used to enter the comment.

  • OK

    Registers the entered IP address.

  • Cancel

    Cancels the IP address registration.
