Using the Printer While Away from Home
Preparation Before Leaving Home
By connecting your computer and the printer with Wireless Direct, you can print from your computer even while away from home.
This section describes how to save a Wireless Direct connection setting and the printer icon to the computer.
Important
- When using outdoors, do not connect to a 5 GHz network (SSID).
- Turn off the printer when transporting it outdoors. For details, see Restrictions.
Set up Wireless Direct on the printer.
In the home screen of the printer's LCD, select
(Setup) and press the OK button.Select LAN settings and press the OK button.
Select Wi-Fi and press the OK button.
Select Advanced mode and press the OK button.
Select Disable and press the OK button.
Press
(Back button) on the printer once to return to the previous screen.Select Wireless Direct and press the OK button.
Select Advanced mode and press the OK button.
Follow the on-screen instructions to enable Wireless Direct.
In the password display confirmation screen, select ON and press the OK button.

Write down the password.
The password will be used when connecting a computer to the printer.
Press the OK button.
Select 2.4GHz/5GHz switch, select the frequency band you want to use, and then press the OK button.
Create a Wireless Direct icon on the computer.
For Windows:
Click the network icon at the bottom edge of the desktop.
Press the Wi-Fi button to turn on Wi-Fi.
From the list of networks (SSIDs), select "DIRECT-XXXX-TR160 series" (where X represents alphanumeric characters).

In the entry screen, enter the password you wrote down earlier, and then click Connect.
Note- If "Enter the PIN from the router label" is displayed in the entry screen, select "Connect using a security key instead" below the entry field to switch to the password entry screen.
Select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners > Add a printer or scanner.
Wait until available printers appear, select the printer you want to add, and then click Add device.
For macOS:
Open System Settings, and then enable Wi-Fi.
From the list of networks (SSIDs), select "DIRECT-XXXX-TR160 series" (where X represents alphanumeric characters).
In the entry screen, enter the password you wrote down earlier, and then click Connect.
Select System Settings > Printers & Scanners > Add Printer, Scanner or Fax..., and then select the printer you want to add from the displayed dialog.

From Use, select your printer or Secure AirPrint, and then click Add.
Note-
If the printer does not appear, check the following.
- The firewall function of your security software is off.

Note- If multiple icons with the same name are created, we recommend that you rename them to make it easier to distinguish between them.
Printing Procedure
Printing While Away from Home
Note
- If you want to use a smartphone or tablet, please read "computer" in the printing procedure as "smartphone" or "tablet."
- If you want to print via a mobile router, no preparation is necessary. Connect the computer and the printer to the mobile router, and then save the setting.
Turn on the printer.

Turn on the computer.
Note- Check that the computer's Wi-Fi is connected to your printer's network name (SSID).

Print.
Note- As for the printer to use, select the one connected with Wireless Direct.
Printing After Coming Home
Turn on the computer.
Turn on the printer.

Print.
Note- Check that the Wi-Fi of the computer and printer is connected to the wireless router's network name (SSID).
- As for the printer to use, select the one connected to the wireless router.
