Notes on Paper Handling

Notes on Printing Environment

The following problems may occur in low-humidity environments (below 40%).

  • The paper may curl or become wrinkled.

  • The paper and print head may come in contact with each other, the print surface may be scratched, and the print head may be damaged.

  • The cut printed material sticks to the printer and does not drop below. (Film paper)

  • The paper sticks to the printer, resulting in poor paper feed and the paper is not ejected normally. (Film paper)

  • Printing is uneven. (Film paper)

The following problems may occur in high-humidity environments (above 60%).

  • The printed material does not dry.

  • Waving of the paper surface is extreme.

  • Paper is not cut neatly. (Cloth paper)

  • A margin remains with borderless printing.

Notes Common to All Paper

  • Avoid use in environments where there is exposure to water.

  • Handle all paper carefully to avoid abrasions and scratching. We recommend wearing gloves.

  • The paper may expand or contract due to changes in conditions such as humidity. Acclimate the paper sufficiently to the printing environment before use.

  • After printing, allow the ink to sufficiently dry before handling. Also, we recommend that you dry the paper separately, without stacking.

  • After printing, handle the paper carefully to avoid touching the surface of the printed material.

Pigment ink may peel off if rubbed or scratched due to its properties.

  • Handle the paper carefully to avoid transferring sweat and oils on hands to the printed surface. This may affect the printing quality.

  • Ejected paper

Depending on the condition of the ejected paper, it may block the next paper ejected, resulting in scratching. Therefore, remove each page separately.

  • If you will not be printing for an extended period of time, or if you expect the printing environment to change, remove any paper from the printer and store it in a bag.

  • Do not leave paper in the printer in high humidity environments (above 60%).

Handling Roll Paper

  • Using paper whose end does not come off the paper core:

When printing on paper other than Canon genuine paper or Canon feed confirmed paper and using the roll paper to the end, the paper end does not come off the paper core, which may affect the paper feed. We recommend confirming the paper specifications with the manufacturer before purchase.

  • If the paper end is frayed (particularly with cloth paper):

Use scissors or another instrument to eliminate fraying. If fraying occurs at the end, fibers may get caught inside the printer, resulting in damage.

  • When using roll paper with large curls:

If you use roll paper whose leading edge has large curls, the print surface may be soiled. Straighten the curl, and then use. If the curl cannot be straightened, first advance the paper with the Control Panel's paper feed function until its leading edge appears outside of the top cover, and then print.

  • When loading the roll paper:

If the end of the roll paper is uneven or contains dirt and tape residue, it may cause feeding problems. If the end of the paper is curled, straighten it out before loading.

  • Sometimes paper waving is noticeable the first time you print after loading the roll paper.

  • If print quality is particularly important, we recommend performing Eject cut.
