Printer Connection Types

The types of printer connections are as follows. The types that can be used differ depending on your printer.

USB

You can connect a computer directly using a USB cable. Any model can connect via USB.

Wired LAN

Some printers can use wired LAN. Cannot be shared with Wi-Fi/Wireless Direct. Can be shared with USB connection.

Wi-Fi connection

The specifications that can be used differ depending on your printer. Please check the specifications of each model.

5GHz

IEEE802.11a/11n/11ac

2.4GHz

IEEE802.11b/11g/11n

Devices equipped with a microwave oven or USB 3.0 interface generally generate noise in the 2.4 GHz band. Do not use such devices nearby.

If you are using a device such as a Bluetooth speaker near the printer, and problems occur from time to time such as noise entering or interruption of sound, you may be able to reduce the problem by using the 5 GHz band for Wi-Fi connection and Wireless Direct.

For detailed specifications of each model, see the specifications list of each model. 5GHz is banned for outdoor use depending on the channel used. In addition, 5GHz cannot be used in some countries and regions.

Wi-Fi connection cannot be shared with wired LAN connection. It can be shared with Wireless Direct/USB connection.

Wireless Direct connection

Wireless direct connection is not a network connection via a Wi-Fi router. It is a direct wireless connection between a computer/smartphone/tablet and the printer. Canon printers are compatible with Wireless Direct except for some inkjet printers.

It cannot be shared with wired LAN. It can be shared with Wi-Fi connection/USB connection.

Depending on the model, you can switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

If you connect a device connected to the Internet via a Wi-Fi router such as a computer to a printer by Wireless Direct, the connection between the device and the Wi-Fi router will be disabled. In that case, the connection of the device may switch to a mobile data connection automatically depending on your device. When connecting to the Internet using a mobile data connection, please note that charges may apply depending on the details of your contract.
