Changing/Setting Passwords
You can check the status of the printer and change the settings over the network using Remote UI or by using (Setup) under the operation panel. Passwords can be set for both Administrator mode and Standard user mode. In addition, in models that can use security policies, you can set/change the password of the security administrator specialized in security policy.
If the password is simply stated in the security guide, it indicates the administrator password.
Logging on in Administrator mode allows you to change all printer settings and to restrict standard user operations. Logging in to Standard user mode allows you to change only certain settings.
After setting an administrator password, you will need to enter it when using some menus in the operation panel. An administrator password can be set either using the operation panel on the printer or using Remote UI.
Types of administrator level and permitted actions
- Administrator
- Each item can be set and reset.
- For models with configurable security policies, you can export the security policy settings set for the printer or import the security policy settings exported from another printer.
- User
- With models that allow user settings, users can perform the permitted user functions set in Remote UI.
- Security administrator
- By setting the printer's security policy according to the organization's security policy, you can restrict users from changing the printer's security-related function settings.
Important
-
You can set the password strength using the password policy.
For password strength, you can set the password length, rules for the characters that must be used for the password, and the password change interval.
-
The following character restrictions apply at the time of factory shipment. Please set a password with 8 (minimum) to 32 (maximum) characters. (This varies depending on the model)
Only letters, numbers, spaces, umlaut characters, and the symbols below can be used.
- ! @ # $ % ^ & * _ ; : , . / ` = + ' " ( ) { } [ ] < > |
-
For models where security policy can be set, the password must be set/changed according to the password strength setting. Even if you change the password policy after setting the password, the password you have already set will remain valid. If you change the password policy, change the password.
