Registering with Media Configuration Tool

When using paper other than genuine Canon paper, you can register it to a printer by customizing the existing media information.
By registering the paper, you can set it in the same way as the existing paper in the printer driver and Professional Print & Layout.

To register as custom paper, set with Media Configuration Tool. The setting procedure is as follows.
For details, refer to the "Media Configuration Tool Guide" of the Online Manual.

  1. Start Media Configuration Tool, then click "Create Custom Paper."

  2. Select the media information you want to use as the basis of the custom paper.

    Note

    • Select the media type that will be the basis, based on the material and thickness of the paper you want to use. For details, see Media Type, Grammage, and Thickness.
    • Obtain the latest media information as needed.
  3. Enter the names to display on the printer control panel and in the printer driver.

    Note

    • You can set any names. Friendly names are recommended.
    • Characters that can be used are limited.
  4. Select the printer to which you want to add the setting, then click Start.

    Note

    • Before deleting or editing registered paper, it is recommended that you back up the media information.
  5. Select the added custom paper, then click "Edit Custom Paper."

  6. Select an appropriate ICC profile on the ICC Profile tab.

    Note

    • The set ICC profile is applied automatically when printing with Professional Print & Layout or other application.
  7. Click Check Settings.

    Check Custom Paper Settings dialog box appears. Check the settings; if there is no problem, click OK.

    Note

    • When printing with third party paper, horizontal streaks with different color tones may appear in the printed material. In that case, perform Paper Feed Adjustment in the Edit Custom Paper dialog box to reduce them.
  8. Click Update.

  9. Select the printer to which you want to add the setting, then click Start.

Windows

  1. Open the setting screen of the printer driver.

  2. Click Update Media Information on the Maintenance tab.

    Make sure that the printer is turned on.

  3. Restart the printer driver.

    The added media information will be applied.

macOS

  1. Start Canon IJ Printer Utility, and then select Media Information from pop-up menu.

    Note

    • For more details, click Home to return to the top page of the Online Manual for your model and search for "Canon IJ Printer Utility."
  2. Click Update Media Information.

    Make sure that the printer is turned on.

  3. Restart application to be used for printing.

    The added media information will be applied.
